Sarah Thomson’s Diary

Sarah Thomson, a spirited young woman from Philadelphia, spent the summer of 1809 “down the shore” at Tuckerton. She recorded details of her journey and the everyday activities of a well-off young person on holiday. In an odd coincidence, Sarah probably passed by Cropwell Meeting, whose history is recounted elsewhere on this site, during some stage of its construction.

Paul Schopp transcribed and edited this diary for the web. It appears here courtesy of the owner of the original diary.
