Maps from the Everts and Stewart Combination Atlas Map of Salem and Gloucester Counties - 1876 |
Everts and Stewart's Combination Atlas of Salem and Gloucester County is a great resource. The maps show all kinds of detail. It represents, if you will, a sort of snapshot of the county from about 1875 or a bit before(it takes time, as some of the maps note, to pot this sort of thing together). I've learned all sorts of things during the course of building these pages. Not surprisingly, that slowed things down since I kept spending time looking at the maps.
It should be noted that this feature contains scans of the maps only. In fact, a couple of the maps are slightly truncated. This is most noticable with the "centerfold" map of Monroe Township. Also, a couple maps feature some distortion due to my unwillingness to breal the binding on my copy of the atlas. Persons who need perfection in that respect or who wish to view the illustrations and other parts of the book will want to either head to the library or see about accquiring a copy. Still, most folks will find the maps posted here to be useful in one way or another.
The whole atlas can be purchased in CD form from the Gloucester County Historical Society and copies of the orginal and and the two reproductions are available from time to time at a variety of prices.
