[1] Henry JACOBS, probably a Dutchman, was, with Peter JEGOU, in
possession of Matiniconck or Burlington Island, when the first settlers of
Burlington arrived in the Colony, and was of material assistance to them
in their dealings with the Indians. The above conveyance was perhaps to
compensate him for being ousted by Robert STACY from Matiniconck Island.

[1] Edward BYLLINGE, the owner of ninety of the hundred shares into which
West Jersey was divided, died 18th of 11th mo. (February), 1684-5, leaving two
daughters, his only surviving children and heirs at law; Gracia, who married
Benjamin BARTLETT and Lovesaday. The latter died before October 5, 1688.
BARTLETT who was Bylling's principal creditor, died before Sept. 16, 1691, and
his widow, Gracia, was appointed administratrix of his estate. She survived so
late as Sept. 12, 1728.
